Get online with the Orbi app
The Orbi app is the easiest and fastest way to set up your Electric Kiwi WiFi.
It’s important to complete all the steps mentioned.
Download the app below or via the QR code on your modem box to get started.
1. Plug in your modem
Attach your modem to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and the power plug using the provided cables - then check that they are both turned on.
Ensure the cord is inserted into the internet port on your modem.
See the following image, or the sleeve your Orbi arrived in to confirm where each cable should be inserted.
2. Connect your modem
Once your Orbi is plugged in and powered on, you should be able to connect to the Orbi network on your mobile device.
The WiFi network name and password will be on a white sticker underneath the Orbi.
While you won’t have any internet access right away, connecting to the Orbi before starting the app set up will make the process smoother.
3. Create a Netgear account
Now that you’re connected to the Orbi’s network, it’s time to open the Netgear Orbi app.
You’ll be prompted to create a Netgear account.
This account will allow you to access personalised support from Netgear if needed, log in to your router remotely, and to be kept informed about any updates to the product.
4. Select your product
Click ‘Get Started’ and then choose your product.
Select ’WiFi Orbi System’.
Skip the steps instructing you to disconnect and reconnect your ISP modem if they are shown - just select ‘Continue’.
5. Add satellites (if you have them)
The app will then ask how many Orbi satellites you want to set up.
If you have ordered an extra satellite unit, select 1. Otherwise, select the ‘No satellites’ button and proceed.
6. Create a WiFi network
The Orbi modem previously connected to should now be detected and be ready for personalisation.
You will be able to update your WiFi network from the default name and password (which is found underneath the Orbi) to whatever you like.
Press ‘Next’ when you are ready to move on.
7. Set up an admin login
Next, you’ll be asked to set up an admin login.
This login is used to log into the Orbi unit at a later stage to update any of your settings (e.g the WiFi name or password).
Once you are done, click ‘Next’ to proceed.
8. Set up security questions
Create security questions to reset your account if you ever forget your admin details.
Once completed, click ‘Next’.
It will take a moment to process and search for any updates.
Allow any updates to continue - it’s important to keep the modem up to date with the latest firmware.
9. Mission complete!
Once the firmware update is complete, select ‘Next’.
You’ll be asked to log back into your WiFi network (using the updated details created in step 7 if required), and you’ll now be able to access the internet!
You should now be good to go!
Orbi app set up FAQs
There are quite a few different things that can impact your connection speed, and luckily some steps you can take to improve this. Check out our broadband speeds page for more info.
For the smoothest experience, we’d recommend using the Orbi app when possible. But if you’d like to get into the nitty gritty, the full guide can be found on the Netgear website.
We highly recommended that you download the app if you can, as it’s MUCH easier to set up this way (and easier for the team to help with any potential issues in future if you need it).
If needed though, you can complete the set up and change your password via your web browser.
The login details would be as follows:
- Login = https://orbilogin.com (192.168.1.1)
- Password = the password on the back of your modem
You can do this if required. Keep in mind this is generally only needed to access advanced settings - so we’d advise to only use this option if you’re well versed in that kind of thing.
The login details would be as follows:
- Login = https://orbilogin.com (192.168.1.1)
- Password = what you created during the app setup process
If you have a server in your home network, you can allow certain types of incoming traffic to reach the server. For example, you might want to make a local web server, FTP server, or game server visible and available to the Internet.
To do this, follow the below steps after manually logging into your Orbi router:
- Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Port Forwarding/Port Triggering.
- Leave the Port Forwarding radio button selected as the service type.
- In the Service Name menu, select the service name.
- For the ServerIP Address field, enter the IP address of the computer that will provide the service, then click the \"add\" button.
- Click the \"add custom service\" button. The Ports - Custom Services page will display.
- In the Protocol menu, select the protocol. If you are unsure, select TCP/UDP.
- In the External Port range field, enter the port numbers, and then the \"add\" button.
This can be done by following the below steps. Bear in mind this will delete any personalized settings such as your network name (SSID) and password
- Make sure your Orbi device is powered on.
- Using a paper clip or similar object, press and hold the Reset button until the Power LED on your Orbi device blinks amber.
- Your router will now be reset.
We’d recommend doing this via the app, but if you don’t have access to mobile device or tablet follow the below steps:
- Launch a web browser from a computer that is connected to your Orbi network.
- Enter https://orbilogin.com. A login window will then appear.
- You’ll then need to enter the user name and password. The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
- When the homepage appears, select \"wireless\"
- To change the network name (SSID), type a new name in the Name (SSID) field.
- To change the password, type a new password in the Password (Network Key) field.
- Click the Apply button to save your settings.
Note that once these details are changed, you may need to reconnect any other devices to your network.
