Mobile pricing explained
What’s the cheapest mobile plan in NZ?
If you’re a light data user, one of the cheapest options out there is Kiwi Mobile’s new Choice Lite plan. We’ve priced it at just $18 per month for 1 GB of fast data, plus unlimited slower data after that. Our current promo makes this even better, dropping that down to $9 per month for your first 6 months.
Yep, that’s endless data from just $9. Ideal if you don’t chew through loads of high-speed data, but still want to stay connected without limits. And you’re covered for the basics too, with 200 minutes of calling and unlimited texts to NZ and Aussie.
No sneaky fees. No bill shock. $9 means $9.
Sure, other telcos have budget-friendly plans too, usually in the $10 to $20 range, but a lot of them are prepaid 28-day cycles, so you end up paying 13 times a year. Choice Lite is a true monthly plan with just 12 bills a year, and gives you unlimited data usage (just slower after your 1 GB is used up).
That makes it one of the cheapest unlimited-use mobile plans for light users in NZ.

Are there any hidden fees or contracts?
Nope. Kiwi Mobile keeps it simple.
There are no hidden fees, no lock-in contracts, and no exit charges. The price you see is exactly what you’ll pay. No activation costs, no cancellation penalties, and no sneaky fine print.
We don’t do “gotchas.” We actually go out of our way to avoid the confusion tactics some other providers use, like extra charges buried in the detail or making you wait 30 days just to leave.
You can cancel anytime. There’s no fixed-term contract and no fee to walk away. It’s a monthly, pay-as-you-go service that’s built to be as easy and fair as possible.
Even billing is designed to work in your favour. While other telcos run on 28-day cycles or try to sneak in an extra bill each year, we stick to proper calendar months. You’ll always have 12 billing cycles a year, not 13.
You can choose to pay weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. Whatever suits you.
There are no surprise charges, just your plan price, plus anything you’ve actually chosen to use, like roaming.
All up, we reckon it’s a refreshingly honest mobile plan.
Do Kiwi Mobile plans run monthly or every 28 days?
Kiwi Mobile runs on proper monthly billing cycles.
That means your plan resets on the same date each month. If you sign up on June 6, your data will refresh on the 6th of every month after that. You’ll get 12 billing cycles a year, not 13 like some other providers sneak in with their 28-day plans.
Some other providers quietly run 28-day data cycles, which adds up to an extra payment every year. With Kiwi Mobile, everything runs to the real calendar.
You can also pick a billing schedule that suits you. Pay monthly, fortnightly, or weekly if that works better for your budget. You can even set the billing date to line up with payday.
And because billing is separate from your data cycle, your data will always reset on the same date each month, no matter how often you choose to pay.
It’s all about keeping things simple and helping you avoid those annoying billing surprises.
Do Kiwi Mobile plans include calls and texts?
Every Kiwi Mobile plan comes with calls and texts included. No top-ups, no extras, no stress.
On the main Choice plan, you get unlimited standard calls and texts to anyone in New Zealand or Australia. On the smaller Choice Lite plan, you’ll get 200 minutes to NZ and Aussie numbers each month, plus unlimited texts.
There’s no need to buy separate calling packs or bolt-ons. It’s all part of the plan price.
And yes, calls to Australia are included. That’s something other providers often charge extra for, or don’t include at all.
You’ll also get the extras that matter: Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE and 5G access are supported, and mobile hotspotting is fully included too. So if you want to use your phone as a hotspot for your laptop or tablet, go for it. No extra charge.
The idea’s simple - you choose your data tier, and everything else is already covered.
