Voicemail
Sometimes life gets in the way and you're not there to take a call.
Here's what you need to know to set up and manage your Voicemail.
To connect to your Kiwi Mobile voicemail:
- 6789 from your Kiwi mobile device while in New Zealand for free.
- +64 266 500 000 if you’re calling from overseas or from a landline or a mobile that isn’t connected to the Kiwi Mobile network.
If you do miss a call and someone has left you a message, you can expect to receive a text from 6789 to let you know.

Voicemail while I’m roaming overseas - how does that work?
To help you avoid unwanted costs, we'll automatically turn off your Voicemail when we detect that you’re travelling overseas. We do this because every call you receive – including ones that go straight to Voicemail – adds to your bill. With Voicemail switched off, there is no need to worry about any unexpected charges when you return. And once you’re back in New Zealand, we automatically turn it back on again.
If you want to use your Voicemail while overseas, there are two options:
-
Divert all incoming calls to Voicemail. If you do this, you won’t be charged for incoming calls which go directly to Voicemail, but also won’t be able to see or answer incoming calls. If you check your Voicemail messages, international roaming charges for outbound calls will apply.
-
Set up conditional call forwarding. This only diverts the calls you do not answer to Voicemail. You'll be charged for the inbound call to your phone, then also charged for the outbound call to your Voicemail any time you miss a call.
You need a Voicemail PIN for both of these options, so make sure to set and remember it before you travel.
Other things to note
- There will be additional charges when using Conditional Call Forwarding to Voicemail while overseas. and those charges will vary depending on where you are roaming.
- We can't guarantee this service works on all overseas carriers due to routing restrictions.
- Even if you activate Conditional Call Forwarding while roaming - if you turn your phone off or switch to flight mode, calls will automatically divert to your Voicemail.
- Listening to your Voicemail messages when overseas will activate international roaming charges (calling your Voicemail is considered a call back to New Zealand).
- Don't forget to turn off Conditional Call Forwarding when you're back home. That way, your Voicemail will work like usual (no extra fees) when you're back in NZ.
